Biography
Guiding patients to better health
Anna Vinnikova, M.D., helps patients with kidney disease navigate the complexities of their medical journey as she creates a customized treatment plan to achieve the best possible outcomes.
“I want my patients to feel comfortable, feel heard, feel respected,” Dr. Vinnikova says. “Serving my patients and supporting my co-workers and trainees is what brings me to work every day.”
She specializes in finding out what damaged a patient’s kidneys and developing a care plan tailored to their unique needs.
Her patients also include people who are on dialysis because their kidneys can no longer function. She oversees their dialysis and coordinates multidisciplinary care including preparation for kidney transplant.
Dr. Vinnikova has been part of the team at VCU Health for more than three decades, and she’s particularly passionate about using her expertise to train new doctors as an associate professor at VCU’s Division of Nephrology.
“One can never stop asking questions and learn,” she says. “Nephrology is vast.”
And it’s a field that continues to challenge and engage her. “It combines the most unique specialty care with the best primary care,” Dr. Vinnikova says. “Having chosen nephrology, I never looked back.”
