Inpatient and Acute Care Rehabilitation Therapy
Rehabilitation in the hospital and at the bedside. Our services are offered at VCU Medical Center at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center in downtown Richmond. We offer rehab during inpatient stays and at the bedside for acute-care treatment.
We work closely with patients who are potentially facing permanent disability due to illness or injury. Our goal is to help each patient reach a level of wellness to get back home and pick back up with the activities of daily living.
We serve patients who are recovering from, or being treated for:
- Amputations
- Cancer
- Deconditioning
- Orthopaedic injuries including total joint replacements
- Stroke
- Transplant including heart and other solid organs
- Trauma injuries
- Vascular disorders
Inpatient rehabilitation
Our goal is your goal – to begin recovery as soon as possible, with limited interruptions to care. If after your hospitalization you are not ready or it is not safe for you to return home, you may be admitted to inpatient rehabilitation at Sheltering Arms Institute for an extended stay at for daily rehabilitation.
Acute care rehabilitation
We serve on all acute floors at VCU Medical Center and our Critical Care Hospital, providing rehab at the bedside for newborns, children, adolescents, adults and seniors who have been admitted to the hospital with intensive care needs or following certain types of surgery. This means we have a rehabilitation team at the patient’s bedside during a hospital stay. We provide individual one-on-one treatment for our patients and sometimes work in group sessions that include goal-specific activities.
