VCU Health System is evolving short-term priorities to better position the health system for the years to come.

These priorities include expanding the roles and responsibilities of the leadership team, whose unwavering dedication to patients, team members, and their communities will allow the health system to continue to grow and provide high-quality care in Virginia, and beyond.

“It is important our leadership structure and resources align with our strategic efforts in an effective and efficient manner, especially to ensure standards of care and seamless operations across all our inpatient entities,” said Marlon Levy, M.D., MBA, interim CEO of VCU Health System and interim senior vice president of VCU Health Sciences. “I am confident with this group of accomplished and capable senior leaders we will do just that, and position VCU Health for continued success and advancement in the future.”

Three VCU Health System executives have accepted new responsibilities, effective August 15. These executives include:

  • John McCurley, M.D., MHA, vice president and chief medical officer of Health System Transformation, will step into the role of interim president of VCU Medical Center and senior vice president at VCU Health System. McCurley has extensive experience as a physician executive and hospital leader. He is also a practicing internal medicine specialist.
  • Elias Neujahr, MHA, MBA, the current president of Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, will retain that title and additionally assume responsibilities for the Real Estate and Strategic Facilities Planning team. In that capacity, Neujahr will oversee all existing main construction and renovation projects such as the Main 7 hospital renovation, Newborn Intensive Care Unit expansion, as well as all new construction projects, including the new VCU Medical Center inpatient tower.
