Several members of VCU Health LifeEvac Critical Care Transport were recently recognized by the Old Dominion EMS Alliance’s 2024 Regional EMS Awards.
The annual ODEMSA awards highlight outstanding contributions and collaborations in emergency medical services. As one of 11 regional EMS councils from across Virginia, ODEMSA is tasked by state law to assist in the development and implementation of the EMS delivery system.
The 2024 Regional EMS Award recipients include Dempsey Whitt, site manager for VCU Health Life Evac’s operations, who was recognized for Outstanding EMS Leadership, and Monica McGee, R.N., the base manager for the VCU Health LifeEvac’s Petersburg base, who was given the Nurse with Outstanding Contribution to EMS award.
"I'm very proud of Monica and Dempsey for their efforts and contributions to ODEMSA's EMS agencies and hospitals. They embody the culture of clinical excellence, service, and humility that defines LifeEvac,” said Harinder Dhindsa, M.D., MPH, director of the Division of Emergency Medical Services at VCU Health and medical director for LifeEvac Critical Care Transport. “Dempsey has also served the commonwealth as a medic for the Virginia National Guard for 30 years. Monica has brought her expertise in critical care, leadership, and outreach to the communities and patients we serve. Both of these VCU Health team members are very deserving of these awards."
Winners of the regional awards will be nominated for the Virginia Office of EMS Governor’s EMS Awards. The governor’s award ceremony is expected to happen early this year.
