New vice president of the Cancer Service Line hired for VCU Health and VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center
David Nalepinski joins the health system with 25 years of experience in oncology-focused health care.

VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and VCU Health appointed David Nalepinski, M.S., as the new vice president of the Cancer Service Line (CSL), as of January 20.
In this CSL executive leadership role, and in close partnership with health system leadership, Nalepinski will oversee patient care delivery and provide executive oversight of fiscal and business activities. In addition, he will direct CSL strategic planning and program development, ensuring the health system’s unwavering commitment to excellence and advancing Massey’s mission to reduce the state cancer burden for all Virginians.
“We are thrilled to have David join the Cancer Service Line leadership team as we continue on the path to examine and rethink the infrastructure that ultimately benefits our patient experience,” said Kandace Mcguire, M.D., interim senior vice president of the Cancer Service Line and chief of breast surgery at Massey, “With David’s deep bench of knowledge in service line planning, process improvements and care delivery models, I have no doubt that he will be instrumental in our journey.”
Nalepinski joins the CSL with over 25 years of experience in oncology-focused health care, previously serving in leadership roles spanning two decades with The Innova Group (Healthcare Solutions Division), Duke Cancer Institute, Dartmouth Cancer Center and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He brings notable expertise in collaboration across clinical care, operations and executive leadership teams to align strategic objectives with optimization of patient care delivery.
“I am incredibly proud of how much our cancer center has grown since achieving the comprehensive designation in 2023,” said Robert A. Winn, M.D., director and Lipman Chair in Oncology at Massey. “By becoming part of the national conversation about cancer research, treatment and survivorship, we are attracting some of the world’s brightest minds to Massey who have distinct experience leading comprehensive cancer centers. The CSL leadership team has a critical role in developing our strategic roadmap for the next five years, and I’m glad to welcome David to our team.”
Nalepinski is a Lean Six Sigma certified professional with a master’s degree in Health Policy and Clinical Practice from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College; and a bachelor’s degree in Sport Business Management from the University of Massachusetts.
