There was magic in the air this week as VCU Health front-line team members rolled up their shirt sleeves to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and experience history in the making.
“I've never been so excited about something as seemingly mundane as a vaccine,” said Dr. Gonzalo Bearman, one of the first vaccine recipients. “But this is no average vaccine, as we know. It's a huge step forward.”
After months of rising caseloads and mounting deaths, the infectious disease expert was feeling elated.
“This could be one of those defining medical moments of the 21st century,” he said.
