Health Information Exchanges

Health information exchanges (HIEs) allow our doctors, nurses, pharmacists and staff to appropriately access and securely share your vital medical information electronically with other health care providers, hospitals and clinics — improving the speed, quality, safety and cost of your health care.

VCU Health participates in one or more HIEs. Your health information will be shared in accordance with federal and state law, as well as our own Notice of Privacy Practices.

You have the right to opt out of HIEs. Simply download and fill out the opt out form. You can either mail, email or fax it to:

Please note that if you choose to opt out, providers will not be able to electronically obtain your medical information from HIEs, but will instead obtain it by other means, such as fax or mail.
