Biography
Dr. Markley has been an assistant professor of medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University since 2014. At the VCU Health Pauley Heart Center, she specializes in noninvasive preventative cardiology, with a focus on the role of nutrition in cardiovascular health and heart disease prevention. Dr. Markley is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Nuclear Cardiovascular Medicine.
Originally from Tehran, Dr. Markley has lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biology from Georgia State University in 2004, earned her M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in 2008, and completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at VCU in 2011, and her fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 2014.
Dr. Markley has been a member of the Catholic Medical Association since 2011, served as regional director 2015-2017. She is also a member of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography.
Dr. Markley’s professional awards include an Outstanding Physician Award and a Scholar’s Prize for Excellence in Scholarship from VCU in 2011, and an Excellence in Teaching Award from VCU in 2015.
Dr. Markley’s research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals, including the American Journal of Cardiology, the Journal of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
