Biography
Putting patients at the center of their cardiac care
Every visit Christina Hunley, PA, has with her patients is an opportunity for them to ask the physician assistant key questions about their heart health.
She welcomes those discussions because she sees each patient as a crucial part of their own care team. She tries to put them at ease during their appointments knowing they already have a lot on their minds.
“Medical problems can often feel overwhelming to patients,” Hunley says. “I try to create an open and laid-back discussion on how to best address their disease.”
Hunley specializes in treating patients with cardiac issues, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, and valvular heart disease.
As a member of the team at the VCU Pauley Heart Center, Hunley practices at the health system’s Williamsburg location at William & Mary.
Hunley coordinates with other care providers to manage a patient’s heart rhythm problems and other health challenges and has years of experience collaborating with surgeons, cardiologists, and other specialists like electrophysiologists.
She also brings a dedication to fostering good communication with colleagues and each of her patients.
“I want to make sure every patient feels comfortable and understands all the treatment options available to them,” she says. “Clear communication helps lead to successful treatment.”
Advice to Patients
“Participate in your care. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Medicine is not one-size-fits-all. At VCU, we will tailor your treatment to your specific needs.”
